It seems just like yesterday Joey Votto was playing at Hamilton's Bernie Arbour Stadium as a 17 year old for the Hamilton Thunderbirds. Having spent 2 years in the Hamilton system on his way to stardom. 10 years later the Cincinnati Reds player was awarded the MVP of the National League with 31 out of 32 first place votes by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
Votto finished the year with a .324Avg, 37 homers, 113RBI's and 106 runs. Votto is the third Canadian to win the trophy, he joins the company of Larry Walker and Justin Morneau.
Good to see that Hamilton had a helping hand in developing a National League MVP.
