Former Hamilton Mayoral Candidate Michael Baldasaro fails to convince judge that marijuana is a religious right

Michael Baldasaro
Former Mayor Candidate Michael Baldasaro and co founder of The Church of the Universes have had their bid to have a marijuana exemption that uses the plant as a sacrament. Baldasaro says that the law infringes the church’s freedom of religion under the charter of rights. Justice Thea Herman ruled against the church today, claiming that the application would virtually legalize marijuana and that others would claim the same religion right. Baldasaro and co founder Walter Tucker will most likely appeal the decision and hope to have the case heard by the Supreme Court of Canada.  The Supreme Court has refused to hear appeals from 1979 and 1984, Baldasaro claims that it’s a violation of their rights and cannot justify the crown attacking church peoples in light of section 1 and 2 of the charter.
