Confederation Park Stadium is Dead/ Council says NO to stadium

After Mayor Bob Bratina tried in a last ditch effort to salvage the Tiger-Cats. City Council voted  9-6  against Confederation Park, taking it off the table and ending any discussion or studies on the site.

Those who voted FOR the Confederation Site were: Bratina, Farr, Pasuta, Ferguson, Jackson and Clark.

AGAINST the Stadium on Confederation Park: Morelli, Merulla, Pearson, Collins, Duval, Whitehead, Partridge, Johnson and Powers

Green Space? Where?    (Click to enlarge)
The main reason for many Councillors who voted the idea down was "green space", and that's about it. No studies will be done to make any other excuse for the "NO" vote.

Clr. Brad Clarke says the responsible action is to tell Hostco Hamilton is withdrawing from stadium.
Ferguson says it would not be wise to withdraw stadium as sometimes business deals can get done at last minute.

Merry Christmas Hamilton....................

  2. Very happy with the outcome today. Finally some councillors are keeping thier promises and others are seeing the light. We do not have to cave at the last minute and build this stadium in or around a public park. Green or not the stadium would have an adverse effect on the area. You would also have to do major environmental studies, traffic studies - and I bet it would all go to the OMB - that = too much time and we do not have that.

  3. Thats not where they were going to put it, why don't you show the twenty acre parcel of land to the left (the old campground) which is nicely growing in and will be a nice forest very shortly, that is where it was supposed to go. I bet the people who's houses back onto the property and in that area are happy its gone. Unfortunatley you do need some parking in a park. Those lots all fill up with picnicers and people going to the wave pool almost every weekend.

  4. Green Space??? Dont we have the enough green space Niagra Escarpment??? That site was perfect lots of space highway access and it would spice up a much needed beach front which is lacking or sorry i forgot we have hutches and barrangas woop di do look at the other citys and what they have done to clean up and bring some people back to the beach eg. Burlington but no Hamilton councilors are just plain stupid and have no vision in the BIG picture. Congrats on a great decision you should be proud atleast we have stelco and Dofasco to look at when we drive into the city!!!!!
