MPP Ted McMeekin has said that the Ontario Government will “consider” Hamilton’s request for $4 million in social services funding, but only if the Councillors don’t spend the money on sidewalks and road repairs like they did last year. Just before election campaigns kicked off, incumbents voted to split $3 million it received from the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund, claiming it was “their” money to spend. Each Councillor received about $230,000 last year, to fix up roads and sidewalks which also was an election year. Many challengers felt that incumbents were using the money distributed as part of their election campaigns, claiming that it was “unethical” and “misleading” to residents, insisting the money should have been distributed after the election.
McMeekin said provincial officials were also critical of the way Councillors used the money. He said the Ontario government could have given the money to other needy social services organizations that have been struggling to make ends meet.
“We could have used that money to help people,” he said.

ReplyDeleteYeah cause us having no pot holes to drive over and cracks to trip over isn't helping us.
Sometimes I would like to slap these people. Maybe they can donate some of their 6 figure salaries to help out the places they figure should have received the money instead.
