Hamilton next on Postal Strike rotation

Hamilton is the next target as the Canadian Union of Public Employees roll out their rotating strikes across the country.
Hamilton postal workers will go on strike just before midnight. Letter carriers delivered mail as usual Friday.
CUPW president Denis Lemelin said in a press conference this morning Local 548 in Hamilton will walk off the job Friday “starting at 11:45 Eastern time.”
“Our co-workers in Hamilton will walk out on strike for the next 48 hours,” Lemelin said.
Approximately 150 people took to the picket lines in Winnipeg at 10:59 p.m. CT Thursday night.
The Hamilton potion of the strike will last 48 hours, meaning there will be no sorting of mail at the Stoney Creek plant.

Sorting will resume Monday morning.
That means there will be no mail sorted for a large portion of southern Ontario – basically an area from Niagara Falls to London including Hamilton – until Monday.
Mail normally sorted on the weekend will lie idle, creating a bulge that will take some time to work through next week.
The Stoney Creek plant sorts about 1 million plus pieces of mail a day.
