Today the long awaited bus terminal on MacNab finally opened. Gore Park, the original bus terminal for majority of the buses downtown is no more. The new modern terminal has many features that Gore Park didn't have like heated platforms, new bus shelters, a landscaped “green” roof, and enhanced access for wheelchairs, bikes and public washrooms. With MacNab terminal complete, the city could continue its vision of making Gore Park into a Victorian-style pedestrian mall. Transit routes 21-27, 33 and 35 at Gore Park were moved to the new MacNab terminal.
The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 107 vice-president Eric Tuck said the move was “long overdue.”
Washrooms, in fact, are one of the main benefits for bus operators with the new facility, Tuck said. “We’ve always had to rely on generosity of merchant’s downtown to use the facilities, so it’ll be nice to have our own facilities.”
