Eastgate Mall Wal Mart plans

The Walmart, which was located at Eastgate Square since 1994, closed its doors Thursday night, just in time for the Jan. 27 opening of the Walmart Supercentre at South Service Road and Centennial Parkway.

Don Burton, executive vice-president, retail group, Redcliff Realty Management, which manages Eastgate Square, said the company has been “working on a redevelopment plan” for the former Walmart location.
Instead of one large retailer, Burton said the plan includes having multiple tenants occupy the space. While he said more details would be available in a few weeks, he said construction would likely start this summer.

Hamilton’s Melissa Tancredi sends Canadian Women’s Soccer team to 2012 London Olympics

#14 Melissa Tancredi
When Canadians watch the 2012 Olympic Games in London, they’ll be watching the Canadian women’s soccer team.  On Friday night at B.C. Place Stadium in Vancouver, Team Canada qualified for their consecutive Olympic Games with a 3-1 win over Mexico.  Melissa Tancredi of Hamilton, Ontario scored the game winning goal.
Team Canada will be joined in the tournament by the United States who earlier on Friday defeated Costa Rica 3-0 in a shutout victory.

Tancredi and Team Canada will be looking for redemption at the 2012 Games. Four years ago at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Canada lost 2-1 to the United States in overtime in the quarterfinals.
The Canadian women take on the Americans tomorrow at 7pm on Rogers Sports Net.

Beware of Audcomp Computer Systems in Ancaster

I came across an add by Audcomp  Computer Systems in Ancaster for the Marketing co-ordinator ( Media Marketing Designer) position that is posted right now January 27th 2012 on Job Bank.
I got hired here along with another girl for about 3 weeks before we were let go and told that it wasn’t working out.

For 3 weeks these guys had us staying till 10pm every night to prepare  for an IT Conference building a website and over all execution of the conference. I remember the other girl who got hired with me. This girl was supposed to make designs for the site and whatever this poor girl came up with, Gary said that it wasn’t’ good enough (after she got fired, they used her designs anyways) I was there putting together not ONE, but TWO sites for these guys.

They bought a site developer program for about $80 and wanted me to make their site look like HP. A site that probably spent close to a million dollars Gary Sohal (Owner) wanted me to make it look like HP.  I worked my butt off for 3 weeks, I would stay at the office until 10pm, then come home and continue. As a guy who was trying to prove himself, I got very little sleep those 3 weeks.

They made an impossible amount of work that needed to be done, this way you work as hard as possible and they also have an easy way of firing you.
Gary Sohal wanted me to build 2 websites, call wineries to get free wine for the conference, make a video, write up articles and update their website. This of course is designed for a team, not ONE person.
I also spent my own gas money going to the Niagara District School Board to look the part of an “expert” marketer so they can sell their conference. Of course I wasn’t reimbursed for my gas like promised.
These 3 weeks was the worst job experience of my life and I’ve worked at Dofasco in the coke ovens.

After the girl had been fired I had this weird feeling that this job wasn’t going to end so well.
As I came to the completion of the two sites, the very same day that I completed the second site, I was asked to come into the office and told that “this wasn’t working out” and of course both my sites were used for their IT Conference. The funny part is that Gary brought his wife and kids into work that day.

I guess he wanted to show his kids how to fire people and make them feel worthless.
What these guys do by the looks of it, is that they hire a young and upcoming Marketing employee who wants to prove him/herself and then use and abuse them until they get what they want or  just quit. Either way history shows that it’s not going to end well for the employee.

I see that the Marketing Co-ordinator position is being posted again and I’m going to assume to help with their bogus IT CONFERENCE or some other project that needs to be done in the next couple of months ( in a hurry).
I also would like to thank them as well because I ended up with the most amazing job I can dream of and it was them firing me that lead me to it.

I have nothing bad to say about any of my past employers in the last 15 years I have ever worked for, but BEWARE of AUDCOMP COMPUTER SYSTEMS in Ancaster.

Every person hired or interviewed by these guys should know what you’re getting yourself into.
If they think they can just mess with people’s lives, then they should also know that eventually people will start talking about it.
I remember one day Gary called me into his office and started screaming at me because of my "horrible" writing; I would like him to critique this piece.

This is my experience and I can only hope to save some other young person out there who is trying to make it and will be chewed up and spit out by Audcomp.

And the Oscar goes too............ Hamilton, Ontario (PV Labs)

And the Academy Award for best engineering achievement in motion pictures goes to PV Labs of Hamilton.
The company, one of the first tenants in the McMaster Innovation Park, will be honoured next month by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences – the group that gives out the Oscars – for its aerial camera equipment.
The award honours PV’s creation of the Pictorvision Eclipse, an electronically stabilized aerial camera platform.

Launched in the summer of 2008 the Eclipse can be mounted on any aircraft and provides rock solid images from a platform in motion.
Michael Lewis, Raigo Alas and Mike Vellekoop of PV Labs and Greg Marsden of L-3 Wescam will be honoured.

The Eclipse technology is a direct descendant of equipment first developed at Wescam, the technology powerhouse when it was led by Mark Chamberlain. Wescam was sold to L-3 Communications in 2002, and two years later Wescam’s Entertainment Group, including rights to the XR technology, was spun out to form a new entertainment centric company – Pictorvision (now called PV Labs at the corporate level).
Today, PV Labs is one of the fastest growing companies in Canada and employs 85 people working on some of the world’s most advanced visual imaging projects.
Images captured by the Eclipse can be seen on blockbuster movies such as The Twilight Saga, Clash of the Titans, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and upcoming movies including The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises.
“Collaborating with industry innovators and users, our design team developed a product that unlocks a whole new level of motion picture artist capability” said company president Ty Shattuck. “We are so very proud that the Academy has honoured the accomplishments of this design team. I think it is fantastic that the designers and engineers behind the magic of Hollywood are recognized.”

Hamilton Residents, QUIT smoking and you could win a car

Quit smoking and you could win a car.

The Canadian Cancer Society is launching its seventh annual Driven to Quit Challenge today in Ontario.

The Challenge, funded annually by the Ontario government, is open to Ontarians aged 19 and over who used tobacco at least 10 months in 2011.

Those who stay smoke-free for the month of March could win their choice of a new Ford Fusion hybrid or Ford Edge.

Today’s official launch takes place in Toronto’s David Pecaut Square and those who want to participate must register by Feb. 29.

A street team will blanket the busy square, asking the public to make their New Year’s pledge by tossing their packs in a 3 ½-metre tall acrylic cigarette butt.

“Fifteen per cent of people in Ontario smoke, and tobacco use accounts for 30 per cent of all cancer cases,” Martin Kabat, Canadian Cancer Society CEO for Ontario said Tuesday.

Health and Long-Term Care Minister Deb Matthews said the province is committed to helping break the cycle of tobacco addiction.

“Every attempt to quit is a vital part of this process, and with the right resources and motivation, Ontarians have a better chance of success,” Matthews said.
